We’ve already seen snippets of what the end-user might expect to get in the next iteration of Android later this year. But for the rest of us who are eager to find out exactly what some of the features look like, the Developer Preview offers a nice little insight.

One of the cosmetic updates that phones like Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 are most likely to get is the ability to hide the punch-hole front camera. For those of you who already have the Developers Preview, here’s how you can check out this neat little trick.

Hide Selfie Camera on Pixel 4a and 5 (Android 12)

The punch-hole selfie camera does allow Pixel 4a and 5 to get a bezel-less display. But it can be an eyesore for some. It all depends on one’s preferences. And with Android 12, we are getting the choice to hide it easily. Here’s how you can go about it.

Open the Settings app, scroll down and tap on System.

Tap on Advanced.

Tap on Developer options.

Then tap on the magnifying glass and search for “Display cutout”.

Or scroll down and tap on “Display cutout”.

Now tap on Hide.

After a brief screen refresh, the selfie camera on your Pixel 4a and 5 will be hidden behind a thin bezel band. This is what your phone’s screen will look like before and after.

And that’s something that we may expect to see later in a stable build as well. The only problem with this feature of the Developer Preview (as of yet) is that the Google search bar at the bottom of the screen is shifted right to the edge, which doesn’t look pretty. Clearly, the option is not fine-tuned yet. But such things are expected from a Developer Preview.
