What to know
- Spotify Wrapped doesn’t release until the end of November. But there are several alternatives that provide in-depth insights into your listening habits all year round.
- Stats.fm and Last.fm are two smartphone apps that let you view your Spotify stats for any time duration. Stats provided by them also paint a truer picture of your listening habits.
- On PC, Spicetify’s Statistics app provides easy access to your Spotify stats at any time.
As the year winds to a close, one of the things that every music lover looks forward to is the yearly review or wrap of their music listening behavior for the year. Apple Music has its Replay, YouTube Music has its quarterly Recaps, but it is Spotify’s Wrapped series that does it best.
Unfortunately, Spotify doesn’t have a set date on which it releases wrapped, which can make the wait feel longer. Historically, Spotify Wrapped has been released in the last week of November, which discounts a month’s worth of listening. So Spotify’s song tracking mechanism isn’t the best reflection of your listening history. Nevertheless, it’s still head and shoulders above other streaming services.
But if the wait gets to you, fret not. There are a few worthy apps for both smartphone and PC that tap into your Spotify listening history and provide an overview of your favorite tracks, artists, albums, etc. Here’s everything you need to know to get your Spotify stats anytime.
How to get your Spotify stats anytime
You can get your Spotify stats on both your smartphone and PC. Here’s how to find them on…
On mobile
The following two apps have been the most popular services to pull up your Spotify stats and provide insight into your listening behavior.
Using Stats.FM
Previously known as Spotistats, Stats.fm is the best music tracker for Spotify (as well as Apple Music) that provides insight into your favorite tracks and artists all throughout the year.
Once you sign up and connect your Spotify account, you can access your listening history along with the recently played songs, top artists, top tracks, and top genres.
You can share your recap with others in a format that is quite similar to Spotify Wrapped. The style of the shareable stats can also be customized, which is a big plus for those who’re not huge fans of the Spotify Wrapped’s default style.
You can also customize the time period over which to get your Spotify recap.
By default, you only get three options – 4 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year. But if you have the Plus subscription, you can basically get your wrapped for whichever time range you like.
Stats.fm also uses Spotify’s algorithm for your stats by default. But if you like, you can sort items by ‘Time played’ and ‘Number of streams’.
Theoretically, these two options can provide a truer reflection of your listening behavior.
And if that’s not all, you can even view all these stats on the Stats.fm website on a PC. Although you won’t get the shareable stats the way you get on the mobile app, you can still access much of the same stats and features that are available on its mobile app.
Stats.fm is truly the best alternative to, and often a better version of, the end-of-year Spotify Wrapped series. With customizable cards, multiple choices for algorithms, and stats for different time ranges, Stats.fm provides the most in-depth insights to your Spotify listening habits.
Using Last.FM
Last.fm used to be what Stats.fm is now. As an alternative to Spotify Wrapped, it’s fallen from grace over time and doesn’t provide the same experience as Spotify’s native wrapped series. But, if you’re looking to get access to your Spotify stats right now, then Last.fm gets the job done well enough.
Once you sign up and connect to your Spotify account, you can view your top tracks, artists, and albums from the ‘Charts’ tab.
But the main feature on Last.fm is ‘Scrobbles’, which is essentially the act of tracking your Spotify music. Scrobbling is what allows Last.fm to identify your listening habits and provide you insights or ‘reports’ into them.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of features that are paywalled, and can only be unlocked with a subscription. Although this is true for Stats.fm as well, it’s not as heavily restricted as Last.fm.
Last.fm also doesn’t have sharable stats in the format and style of Spotify wrapped, which can be a downer if you’re looking specifically for Spotify wrapped alternatives. But the idea behind the app is the same – that is, to give you insight into your music listening behavior and stats. The app may not be what it used to be. But it still holds its own and can work as a decent alternative to both Spotify wrapped and Stats.fm. We sincerely hope Last.fm can get back to being not just a worthy competitor but the premiere music stats provider.
On PC
Although you can access Stats.fm and Last.fm on their respective websites on PC, the best way to access your Spotify stats is via Spicetify.
Using Spicetify’s Statistics app
Spicetify is a Spotify modded app that lets you customize the Spotify desktop app. While there are several extensions, themes, snippets, and app, the Statistics app is what gets the job done.
If you already have Spicetify installed, getting the Statistics app is fairly easy. Here’s how to do so:
- Go to the Statistics app GitHub page and download the zip file under ‘Assets’.
- Extract the zip file.
- Copy the stats folder.
- Now open Spicetify’s CustomApps folder. You can find this by running the following script in the RUN box (
Win+R
):
%appdata%\spicetify\CustomApps\
- Here, paste the ‘stats’ folder.
- Now open PowerShell.
- Type the following command and hit Enter:
spicetify config custom_apps stats
- Now enter the following command and hit Enter:
spicetify apply
- Statistics will be available from the top left corner of Spotify.
You can view your listening stats by Artists, Tracks, Genres, Library, and Charts. Each of these provides a different take on your listening behavior.
You can view your stats by total numbers, by percentage, as well as recently played.
Although you won’t get the Spotify Wrapped style with Spicetify’s Statistics app, the insight you get into your listening habits is on par with it.
These were some of the ways that you can access your Spotify stats and listening habits without Spotify Wrapped. Even though the style and pattern of Spotify Wrapped changes ever so slightly from year to year, it’s still based on Spotify’s algorithms and may not be a true reflection of your actual stats. Fortunately, with the aforementioned apps, you can get a more precise understanding of your musical taste and, what’s more, you can get it today.
