Packing the cutting-edge hardware specs and the best of features you can have on a smartphone, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 are winners in all regards. However, since they are still electronics at the end that are running on an open-source Android OS, it wouldn’t be outlandish if you ended up encountering errors or random crashes. There have been several reports that suggest the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update is causing these two Galaxy devices to randomly reboot, so here’s how you can fix it.
Make sure you haven’t asked the system to restart… randomly!
Before we see the fix, let us first confirm that we haven’t set it to reboot on its own — because that’s an option in the settings. That’s not exactly a random reboot because you specify the timing of the restart, but in case you forget you have set this On, this is a random reboot for you. Right? So, let’s disable it in case it’s On.
Open the Settings app > Device Maintenance > 3-dot menu in the top right > Auto restart. Disable this feature if you have it on, because keeping it on allows the system to reboot the device at the specified weekly timing.
If you already had the Auto Restart disabled, then here’s what you can do to fix the random restart issue on your Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8 and, Galaxy S9.
Step 1: Clear device cache
Device cache is a partition on your device’s internal storage where all of the temporary data and app-specific files. After a major update such as Android 8.0, there’s a chance that some the files would be incompatible with the new version or could become corrupt. Corrupt data files can cause apps to suddenly crash, which could, in turn, cause the device to reboot randomly. To fix this issue, you can clear the device cache from the recovery menu.

Now, you should test the fix for a few days to check whether the issue is gone or not. If not, follow the step 2 below.
Step 2: Factory reset the device
It is already recommended by Android OEM and Google itself that before installing any major software update, you should perform a factory reset on the device. Since this isn’t mandatory when you install the OTA update, most of us ignore it to save the trouble of backing up all our data. However, one tried and tested way to fix almost all of your issues on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 after the Oreo update is performing a factory reset.

This should fix the issue. But sometimes, when you restore old data, such issues may reappear. So, do keep an eye on such stuff. keep track of whether the issue is arising after you restore old stuff, or is it appearing already without any data restoration as such.
