What to know
- Only female Combee can evolve into Vespiquen.
- You need 50 Combee Candy to perform the evolution.
- A female Combee is recognizable by a red mark on the bottom face of its honeycomb.
- Male Combee cannot evolve under any circumstance.
Combee is a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon inspired by honeybees, and its evolution mirrors the hierarchy of a hive. In Pokémon Go, this makes the evolution requirement gender-dependent — only female Combee can become Vespiquen, the queen bee Pokémon.
How to identify a female Combee
When catching Combee in the wild, gender is easy to distinguish visually. A female Combee has a small red or orange triangular mark on its bottom face, while males do not. This difference helps you save Poké Balls by targeting only females during events or spawns.

How to evolve a female Combee into Vespiquen
Step 1
Catch a female Combee. They are rarer than males, with an appearance rate of around 12.5% (roughly one in eight Combee).

Step 2
Collect 50 Combee Candy. You can earn these by catching Combee, transferring extras to Professor Willow, or walking with a Combee as your Buddy Pokémon (earning one Candy every 3 km).

Step 3
Once you have a female Combee and 50 Candy, open its profile. The Evolve button should appear. Tap it to evolve your Combee into Vespiquen.

Step 4
Your female Combee will transform into Vespiquen, a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon known for its high defensive stats and queenly appearance. Vespiquen becomes a nice addition to your Pokédex and a collector’s highlight.

When to evolve Combee for events
Occasionally, events like Pokémon Go’s Harvest Festival or Bug Out events feature boosted Combee spawns or evolution tasks that reward Stardust or bonuses. Saving a female Combee for such events can maximize in-game rewards.
Evolving Combee with ease
Evolving Combee in Pokémon Go is simple once you know the gender rule. Only female Combee can evolve into Vespiquen using 50 Candy, while male ones remain unevolved. Keep an eye out for that red mark when you’re catching Combee — that’s your key to adding Vespiquen to your lineup.
