Google and Motorola have teamed up to introduce the the Android One program to USA with the Moto X4. Moto X4 was already a decent device, and Android One program treatment just makes the deal a lot sweeter. However, Google is offering the device under their own Google Fi wireless service. So what if you don’t want Google Fi. but are still interested in the Moto X4 Android One handset?

For the uninitiated, the Moto X4 is among other few device launched under the Android One program in last 30 days. Recently, in India, Google in partnership with Xiaomi announced Xiaomi Mi A1 that is also covered under Android One. It’s clear that Google has shifted its focus in the Android One from low-end Android One phones to mid-range and high range smartphones, which is pretty cool.

Actually, it was territory under which Google used to release Nexus devices, but now that they are producing premium Pixel smartphones that cost as must as your Samsung and LG flagships — and even beat them to death — there was lack of devices offering google software update support, and running on stock Android UI. Well, the Android One program is now covering that up.

BTW, Moto X4 is the first non-Pixel device that runs on Google’s Project Fi network. For the unaware, Project Fi is a wireless service from Google that takes care of all your calls, texts, and data on one simple plan. Currently, it is available in the US only.

Other than these two important features, Moto X4 is primarily the same device that you get directly from Motorola otherwise. It includes features such as a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 630 processor, dual rear cameras (12MP and 8MP), 3,000mAh battery, and fast charging.

If you like the idea of Moto X4 coupled with Android One and Project Fi, you’ll need to sign up for Project Fi to buy this device. If, however, you are not interested in Google Fi yet want an Android One Moto X4, you can still enjoy the Moto X4.

Well, you will just have to buy Moto X4 with the Project Fi service, but, yes, you can cancel it if you don’t want it. It’s good to wait until the device arrives. Plus, there are no termination charges for canceling the Google Fi service.

It’s simple to cancel the Google Fi service. Here are the steps that you need to follow to buy Moto X4 without Google Fi service:

  1. Buy Moto X4 from Project Fi website.
  2. Once the device arrives, open the Project Fi website again and login with your account.
  3. Go to Account tab and select Manage Plan.
  4. Click on “Cancel Service”. You will be asked whether you want to transfer your number to another carrier, to Google Voice or you want to give up your number. Choose the appropriate action and you are good to go.

You now have your Moto X4 powered by Android One without Google Fi service, unlocked and ready to use on your choice of wireless carrier.
