Starting with Instagram version 29, you will be able to add GIF stickers to your Instagram Stories. This is a feature that has been in the rumor mills for months now but finally, the Facebook-owned company has confirmed its availability.
As you would expect, the photo and video sharing app has partnered with GIPHY to allow users take advantage of the huge GIF collection when creating their Instagram Stories. There is no doubt that since its inception, Stories has propelled Instagram to higher heights and with this new little addition, it’s only going to get better.
You can add word art, moving sparkles, hats, sunglasses or any other accessories to your story, where they’ll be overlaid on photos, videos or on Boomerangs. The new GIF feature can be found next to other sticker options in the app.

The latest announcement also includes a hidden gem. Unlike today where Instagram users are forced to crop photos to make them work in their stories, the company says that “in the coming weeks, we’re also rolling out the ability to upload photos and videos of any size to your story — so you never have to lose part of a photo or cut a friend out of a group video.”
As you wait for this new feature on your Instagram app, you can take advantage of the one available, right? Well, let’s get to it.

How to add GIF stickers to Instagram Stories
- First, capture a picture or video in Instagram Stories. To do this, swipe right from the main screen or simply tap the camera icon in the top-left corner of your screen. When the photo or video is ready, tap the smiley face icon that shows up in the top right corner and then tap on the magnifying glass with the word “GIF.”
- A page with trending GIFs will show up on your screen. To add one to your story, simply tap the icon and you can resize it or even flip it up or down.
- If you don’t like what you see, you can also search for more specific GIFs from the huge collection GIPHY has in store. To do this, simply key in what you want – be it accessories, effects, peekers, emoji, or word art – and voila!
Have fun!
