Huawei confirmed at a fans’ meetup event back in September last year that the Honor 8 Pro was set to receive the Android Oreo update early in 2018. The Chinese OEM is now making good on its promise with the announcement that the company’s EMUI 8.0 is rolling out soon to the Honor 8 Pro, along with the Honor 9i, Honor 7X, and Honor 8 Lite.

EMUI 8.0 is the latest version of Huawei’s skin that runs on the Android Oreo platform, featuring support for artificial intelligence-fueled Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition, Smart Tips, and AI Accelerated Translator. The upgraded EMUI has advanced software that helps to minimize lag and speed up your smartphone experience, a Huawei spokesperson was quoted by Android Authority as saying.

It’s worth pointing out that EMUI 8.0 is the successor to the EMUI 5.1, though the gap in the version number is understood to be in keeping with the Android 8.0 version to avoid confusion going forward. The Huawei Mate 9, Huawei Honor 9 and V9, Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, Huawei Mate 9 Pro, and Huawei P10 Plus already launched in China with Android Oreo out of the box.
