Android Q might be all the rage right now, but it’s worth remembering that its predecessor, Android 9 Pie, has only hit 10% of all Android devices across the globe. This is partly because of the slow upgrade process we’ve come to get used to from Samsung, the vendor with the most number of devices on the market.
To be fair, it’s not just Samsung’s fault that software updates take ages to arrive on eligible devices, but carriers have been known to play their part too. For instance, the Galaxy A6 got the update to Android 9 Pie in Europe several weeks ago and its only now that T-Mobile has started development of the OS for the device.
We can’t give you an exact date that Galaxy A6 will get the update on T-Mobile, but this development does tell us that the wait will soon be over.
The story isn’t so different for owners of the Galaxy S8 Active and Galaxy J7 Star on the same carrier. T-Mobile says it has begun Android Pie development for either device, but it doesn’t give any timelines as to when to expect its arrival.
It may take several weeks before T-Mobile completes the development phase of the OS, which makes late Q2 2019 a possible release date for the update.
