The next augmented reality based smartphone game from Niantic Labs is going to make a lot of Harry Potter fans happy. The company just announced that their next title would be called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
Niantic’s previous game, Pokemon GO, was a worldwide phenomenon when it was released. It took over the world by storm, and Pokemon fans everywhere ventured in to the outside world to capture and train Pokemon in augmented reality. Although the success was short lived, it did show us what AR can do for games.
Now, Niantic, in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and WB Games (SF), will soon let your dreams of becoming a wizard come true. According to the announcement post, players will be able to learn spells, discover and fight beasts, explore their neighborhood in Harry Potter style and team up with other players. You will also have to fight and take down some powerful enemies.
The game will feature some new AR technology and also introduce some new ways to play. We weren’t given any potential time frame for when the game would be released. This probably means that the game is still in early development, and we should know more in the coming months. Are you excited to enter the wizarding world of Harry Potter in AR?
