Gorilla Glass achieves a remarkable feat of being used in 1 billion gadgets

Constructed out of chemically treated glass, Corning’s Gorilla Glass features an exceptional damage resistance to scratches, drops, and bumps of everyday use and it is truly remarkable to know that it has been used in over 1 billion gadgets so far based on their announcement of the Q3 2012 numbers and not only that, Gorilla glass has also played a key role for the company in bringing sales up to $363 million which is an increased sales of around 21% more than what Corning saw last year.

Starting with the good ‘ol Samsung Galaxy S (as far as I know), the Corning’s Gorilla Glass is now used in most of the high end devices manufactured by Samsung, Motorola, HTC, ASUS and Acer.

Corning announced the Gorilla Glass 2 earlier this year with 20% less thickness than its first iteration, yet having the same strength and scratch resistant capabilities of the original Gorilla Glass.

Below’s an image explaining how Corning’s Gorilla glass differs from the most commonly used glass type ‘Soda Lime Glass’. Have a look:
