We’ve known for some time now that the Google Pixel 3 XL will come with a notched display screen, where the notch will house two camera lenses. However, it’s through the latest leaks that we can now give out much clearer details about the phone and its photography capabilities.

Pre-production units are slowly making their way into the hands of various tech bloggers across the globe and the latest leave little to the imagination. A Russian website has leaked multiple images of the Google Pixel 3 XL that reveal quite a lot, among them a combination of plastic and glass for the build akin to the Pixel 2 XL. Speaking of which, it has been noted that the Pixel 3 XL can easily fit into its predecessor’s case, so we don’t expect anything significantly bigger or smaller than the 6-inch panel on the 2017 edition.

We have long assumed that the dual-lens camera setup on the front of the Pixel 3 XL will be used for 3D face recognition, but from the latest developments, it appears that we are looking at portrait mode functionality for the second lens, with the primary lens functioning as a wide-angle shooter. The camera is also said to come with a feature known as “Super Selfies”, but what exactly this feature will do remains unknown.

The back of the Pixel 3 XL will have only one camera lens, suggesting it will be powerful enough to not need a second lens thanks to Google’s software tweaks. The first Visual Core chipset came inside the Pixel 2 and apparently, the Pixel 3 will get an even better one to handle more than just improving HDR+ image processing.

With Android 9 Pie running the show out of the box, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are also expected to come with software tweaks of their own, and among them is the missing option to turn off gesture navigation. But of course, we’ve noted that this information is based on pre-production units, so a lot could change between now and the expected October launch date.
