Google Maps for Android is introducing a new look for its 'You' and 'Contribute' tabs. This update brings a full sheet redesign, making the app’s interface more consistent and modern. Previously, only the 'Explore' tab and some other key features used the sheet layout, which shows information in a panel that does not cover the entire screen. Now, the entire app follows this design approach, offering a unified experience for users.

With the new design, the 'You' tab—where you find your lists and saved places—now displays a sliver of the background map at the top of the screen and behind the transparent status bar. This subtle change helps you keep your bearings, as you can always see a bit of the map for context. The rest of the interface remains familiar, so you won’t need to relearn how to use your saved places or lists.

You can also minimize the sheet, docking its rounded corners with the bottom bar. This lets the map layer, including the search bar, filters, and directions button, remain fully visible and usable. The 'Contribute' tab, which prompts you to leave reviews and add information, gets the same treatment. However, it loses its dedicated search bar unless you dock the sheet, and the page title is now left-aligned instead of centered.

This redesign is rolling out with the stable version 25.16 of Google Maps for Android. While the app does not yet use Material You’s Dynamic Color, it continues with the teal theme introduced last year. The update makes Google Maps feel more modern and consistent with other first-party apps from Google. The new design is expected to arrive on iPhone and iPad in the future, but for now, Android users are the first to experience these changes.

Overall, this update aims to make navigation smoother and the interface more visually coherent, ensuring that you always have a clear view of the map while accessing your favorite features.
