Recent leaks and rumors suggest that Google is working on monetizing its Gemini-powered AI chatbot Bard. The news comes alongside a slew of new features Google’s been working on to update its AI chatbot in 2024. Here’s a look at what you can expect from Bard in the new year.
Google’s Bard Advanced (for Google One subscribers only)
Bard is currently powered by the new Gemini Pro model which was released in December 2023 and is the most advanced LLM created by Google to date. But recent leaks suggest a higher tier could be in development – one that would be available for users via a Google One subscription.
First spotted by X user Roussel, the upgraded version of Bard, currently known as ‘Bard Advanced’ will run on Gemini Ultra and may be available for Google One subscribers for 3 months free of charge. Subsequently, it is speculated to be bundled into Google One itself, possibly suggesting a price hike for Google One membership itself.
Bard Advanced is expected to be a “more capable large language model with advanced math and reasoning skills”, as per Roussel’s findings. Although Google has yet to confirm these speculations, the leaks come from a source that’s previously been bang-on in regards to upcoming Bard features.
Other upcoming Bard features
According to the source, there are a few other new Bard features in the pipeline. Here’s a quick look at them:
- Motoko – Codenamed for ‘Bots’, this feature will possibly allow users to create bots.
- Gallery – An explore page to discover the different topics Bard can help you with.
- Tasks – A separate page to view and manage tasks running in the background.
- Sharing Background/Foreground – A feature to isolate and share the background and foreground of an image.
- Power Up – A feature to improve and expand upon your prompts.
There is no confirmation as to whether these features will be available to users for free or if they’ll be exclusive to Bard Advanced with its Gemini-Ultra model. More information is expected to arrive soon. So keep your eyes peeled and return to this page to get further updates on Google’s plans for Bard Advanced.
