Samsung’s Marshmallow beta test builds are now finally graduating to the stable state as the company begins rollout for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmwares in Korea today.
Under the test builds, users were able to achieve systemless root on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices running Marshmallow by simply flashing the latest SuperSU beta from TWRP recovery. But we aren’t sure yet if the same would work with the final builds of Marshmallow 6.0.1 as well.
Also, you might need updated TWRP recovery builds for the newer 6.0.1 firmwares. The previous TWRP recovery builds might not work on Galaxy S6/Edge Marshmallow 6.0.1 firmwares.
So before you head out and install the Android 6.0.1 firmware on your Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge, know that there isn’t a working root method known for the 6.0.1 release yet.
We’re actively looking over the XDA threads for any helpful information on S6 and S6 Edge 6.0.1 root status. If root access is something, you can’t go without on your device, then we’d recommend you to wait for a while before installing the official 6.0.1 firmware on your device.
For the unknown, getting root Marshmallow is possible by only two ways — either install a modified custom kernel OR use Chainfire’s systemless root. While we’re sure both methods would work eventually for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge 6.0.1 firmwares, but for the root needy folks among us, it’s better to stay away of the Marshmallow sweetness until root is confirmed 100% by the community.
