The software on Galaxy Note 8 is great. It’s fast, featureful and secure. Samsung has itself come a long way from the TouchWiz UI to Samsung Experience UI 8.5 on the Galaxy Note 8. However, even with a stable software, the appearance is still very much Samsung-ish, and some of us can’t stand that.

Thankfully, someone over at XDA took the matter into their own hands and released an unofficial build of Lineage OS 14.1 for the Galaxy Note 8. For the uninitiated, Lineage OS is a custom Android ROM available for a variety of Android devices. The most lovable thing about Lineage OS is that it gives you stock (pure) Android experience, like you see on Google’s Nexus and Pixel phones, on any Android device.

The Galaxy Note 8 Lineage OS 14.1 ROM is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The ROM is currently in its alpha stage and hence doesn’t provide the right experience you’d want from it. For now, we do NOT recommend you to install this on your Galaxy Note 8. But be sure to keep an eye on the original development page to keep track of the ROM’s performance and stability updates.

LineageOS is also available unofficially as Lineage OS 15.0 with Android 8.0 Oreo. However, it might take some time for third-party developers to get it ready for the Galaxy Note 8. Chances are pretty good for Note 8 to get Android 8.0 Oreo update from Samsung officially before Lineage OS 15.0 surfaces for it.
