With just a couple of days to go before Samsung will be officially announcing the Galaxy Note 2 – the successor to the 5.3″ phablet – at the IFA in Berlin, its specs have been revealed in an image leaked and obtained by Korean publication Seoul Newspaper.

According to the image, the Galaxy Note 2 will mostly be a Galaxy S3 under the hood, with the same quad-core Exynos 4412 chipset powering it, along with a 5.5″ 720p (1280×720) resolution display. What’s interesting to note is that the OS version is mentioned as 4.1.1, which means Samsung could be gearing up to release the device with Jelly Bean out of the box which is quite good news (if it turns out to be true).

The other details gleaned from the image are that it will be available in 16/32 GB storage options and also come in both 3G and 4G LTE variants. The increased screen size but decreased screen resolution as opposed to the 1280×800 5.3″ screen on the original Galaxy Note does seem like a downgrade in terms of sharpness, but maybe Samsung will surprise us with an SAMOLED display with an RGB sub-pixels matrix instead of the PenTile one (and might also be flexible as rumored before) which will offset the lower resolution.

So, excited about the Galaxy Note 2 and have you already started saving up money for it? Or is the Galaxy S3 a good enough device to replace it for you? Do let us know in the comments, and stick around in the coming days as we bring to you more info on the device after it is officially unveiled.
