Damn this is strange on Samsung’s part. In a leaked document, a Galaxy S3 variant namely “GT-I9300_TIZEN” was found getting a WiFi certification.
Now that ‘TIZEN’ word in the device’s model number is really off the track. Samsung’s Galaxy series of smartphones are all and only for Android OS. Starting from Galaxy Champ Neo, Gio, dual sim duos — it goes all the way upto Galaxy Tabs series. So what’s Tizen doing here.
For those of you who don’t know, Tizen is a free and open source Mobile operating system..
Tizen is based on the Linux operating system backed by the Linux Foundation and represented in the industry by Tizen Association. The operating system incorporates a number of modules such as network management from the MeeGo project, a combination of the mobile operating systems Moblin, created by Intel, and Maemo, created by Nokia. Development is led by companies gathered around Tizen Association, which is a not-for-profit consortium steered by a Board of Directors composed of Huawei, Intel, NEC, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, Panasonic, Samsung, SK Telecom, Sprint, Telefónica and Vodafone.
It could be that Samsung is trying out Tizen on a device with similar specifications of Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. Plus there are rumors as well about Samsung merging its own Bada OS into Tizen to create a new OS for the low end smartphone market. So this must be a mistake or something like that. The Galaxy series by Samsung will always be dedicated towards Android, IMO. Why would they mess it up?
