What to know
- xAI has added a memory feature to its Grok chatbot, allowing it to remember details from previous conversations.
- The feature is currently in beta and available on Grok.com and its mobile apps, but not in the EU or UK.
- Users can view, manage, or delete their stored memories, and can disable the feature in settings.
- This update brings Grok closer to competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini, which already offer similar memory capabilities.
xAI, the artificial intelligence company led by Elon Musk, has introduced a new memory feature for its Grok chatbot. This feature enables Grok to retain information from your past conversations, allowing it to provide more personalized and relevant responses when you interact with it again. For example, if you have previously discussed your preferences or asked for recommendations, Grok can use that information to tailor its future suggestions to your needs.
The memory feature is currently in beta and is accessible through Grok.com as well as the Grok applications for iOS and Android. However, users in the European Union and the United Kingdom do not have access to this feature at this time. xAI has stated that it is working to integrate the memory feature into the Grok experience on the X platform as well.

Transparency is a key aspect of this update. You can see exactly what Grok remembers about your interactions. If you wish to remove specific memories, you can do so by selecting the appropriate icon beneath the memory in the Grok chat interface on the web. Support for deleting memories on Android devices will be available soon. Additionally, you can turn off the memory feature entirely through the Data Controls section in the settings menu.
This development brings Grok in line with other leading AI chatbots such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, both of which have persistent memory features to enhance user experience. ChatGPT, for instance, has recently expanded its memory capabilities to utilize a user's entire conversation history, while Gemini also uses memory to customize its responses for each user.
xAI continues to focus on improving Grok’s capabilities to better serve users and compete with other advanced AI chatbots in the market.
