Droid Xtreme is now Droid X, a Very Impressive 4.3 inch QWERTY Smart Phone

Droid X listed in Verizon Inventory

Rumors about Motorola devices don’t even rest a day. We discussed Motorola Droid Xtreme only a few days back before pulling the Droid 2 leaked pics and rumored Specs. Looks like that angered the Droid Xtreme insiders who are back to steal the show back – with a new name. Again?

Yes, the name has changed, yet again, and this around its the shortest one possible for it, the Droid X. We had ‘S’ versions of iPhone and galaxy, but you know, Droid is different here too. Found by phandroid guys in the Verizon’s inventory system, here are a couple of more leaked shots that confirm that it is a beast in the making with 4.3 inch screen (hello HTC EVO, hello HTC HD2, remember!) but dons a qwerty keyboard to go step ahead of HTC devices.

There are some additional specs that grabbed our attention from the pics. The device measure 2.5 x 5.01 x 0.39 inches and weighs a neat 5.47 ounces. The display resolution is 480 x 854 and supports up to 16 Million colors. The Droid X/Xtreme/Shadow will be dual band 1xEVDO phone headed to Verizon, of course since the Droid brand is owned by the Carrier, not the manufacturer.

The only fact that is hard to swallow is the mention of Safari 4.0 browser, kind of weird and nasty. Maybe just a mistaken peer stock android browser (both use webkit, FYI) and may get corrected soon, who wanted it anyway.

Well, given a 4.3 inch screen head-to-head comparison with HTC EVO is appealing and we can’t resist. The Droid X is around 5.3 mm taller but that does not matter since it is beautifully thin at just 9.9 mm, equal to Samsung Galaxy S. Now add to that, it’s a QWERTY device and you know, it’s kind of miracle. Apparently, the iPhone is 9.3 mm thick without a keyboard. So that’s an awesome feature, no? Well, that’s why it was Xtreme.

Droid X Physical Attributes

After rocking with Droid last year, Motorola is looking in a good shape with phones like Droid X, Droid 2 and very astonishingly rumored 2 Ghz phone. Keep up the good work, Moto.
