The first device from Sony’s Flagship Z series, Xperia Z1, won’t be getting Android 7.0 Nougat update officially. Sony dropped software for the device long ago. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get the freshest release of Android running on your Z1.
Developer SuperLamic over at xda has released an AOSP based Android 7.0 Nougat ROM for Xperia Z1 (honami). The ROM is in testing phase currently so has bugs & issues not suitable to be your daily driver.
There are some major functionality issues with the ROM like Camera not working, slow charging, etc. Take a look at the full list of issues acknowledged by the developer:
[ecko_toggle style=”solid” state=”closed” title=”Known issues & Bugs (click to view)“]- Camera is not working in camera app, 3rd party apps have half a screen green and the other half is again halved. Not usable
- Touchscreen is sometimes irresponsible – I haven’t heard that any1 has problem with it, but I can see it on all roms with 3.10 kernel
- Charging using usb is slow (magnetic charger is ok)
- Maybe it drains more power than stock
- Bluetooth and NFC not working
Grab the Xperia Z1 Android 7.0 Nougat ROM from the download link below and simply install/flash it via TWRP recovery like you’d flash any other custom ROM on the device. Also, since this is an AOSP based ROM, you will have to flash/install a Nougat supported Gapps package separately via TWRP to get Google services like Play Store on your device.
