Xiaomi has released the Mi5 Nougat update today for Chinese variant, which is installable on the global variant too. We have got you the download links and guide below to help you run Android 7.0 Nougat update on your Mi5 right away.
Note: As this is Chinese ROM, you won’t have the Google Apps pre-installed. But this came be overcome easily, as after updating the Mi5 to Nougat with Chinese ROM, you can use this specific Google Installer app to install the Google Apps like Play Store, Play Services, Maps, keep and what not pretty easily.
The detailed downloads and instructions provided below are for the regular Mi5 devices, but if you are on developer ROM already, you simply upgrade to Nougat using the 7.0 OTA file.
How to update if you are on Developer ROM already. Download the Mi5 Android 7.0 OTA file, transfer it to Mi5 (any folder), open the Updater app on your device, tap on Choose update package, select the OTA file. That’s it. Your Mi5 will be updated to Android Nougat in a while.
Now, for the majority of users who are not on developer ROM, can install using the guide below.
How to Install Android 7.0 Nougat update on Xiaomi Mi5
This guide is for every Mi5 user. But if your Mi5 is on developer ROM already, see above for easy way to upgrade.
Before we get to guide, make sure you have made backup of your device, as everything on it will be deleted while installing the Nougat update.
Step 1. Download the Fastboot ROM.
Step 2. Extract the .tgz file using a software like 7-zip to gets its contents.
Step 3. Install ADB driver. Install MiSuite also, so that driver needs are totally done.
Step 4. Boot your Xiaomi Mi5 into fastboot mode. Do this:
- Power off your Mi5 first. Wait till screen goes off.
- Press and hold Volume down + power button together until you see anything on screen to enter fastboot mode.
Step 5. Connect your Mi5 to PC now.
Step 6. Run the flash_all file by double clicking on it. This will automatically run the fastboot commands to install the Android Nougat update on your Mi5.
That’s it. When your device reboots it will be running the Android 7.0 update.
Note: Use the Google Installer App to install the Google Apps (Play Store, Maps, etc.) which are missing by default on the Nougat ROM shared above.
