The T-Mobile M9 5.1.1 update is rolling out to all the users at once. If you haven’t received the OTA update notification yet, you might force check for it from Settings » About » Software updates » Check now.

Along with an update to Android version to 5.1, the 2.7.531.6 software version also brings the following changes (as per the official changelog):

  • Anti-theft
  • Google Wallet
  • Battery improvements

Anti-theft is a feature new that’s operated via the Android device manager app, and is activated when you have a Google account and Lockscreen security in place on your T-Mobile M9. The purpose of Anti-theft is to protect your device from unauthorized factory reset, meaning if you’ve Anti-theft enabled no one can factory reset your device, not even from a recovery. Useful feature it is.

The Android 5.1 OTA update for T-Mobile M9 is 836 MB in size. In case you haven’t been able to download the OTA update directly from T-Mobile, you can grab the OTA from the download link below and have it flashed via stock HTC recovery using either Apply update option or ADB sideload. Make sure that you’ve stock HTC recovery installed on your M9.
