Installing the OTA should be pretty easy for you, and this is a guaranteed quick update to Marshmallow Android 6.0 OS right away, one that is 100% official.
All you need to install the X Play Marshmallow OTA is download the file, transfer it to your device, and then boot into recovery mode and install it. We’ve linked a guide below for you to get some help on this, if there is a need.

Warning: This is only for model no. XT1563, the Canadian Moto X Play. Do not try this on any other device.

How to: To install, transfer the OTA file to the device. Then power off your Moto X Play, and then press and hold Power + Volume down button together to reboot it into bootloader mode. Now, bring up the recovery menu using volume buttons, and then use Power button to boot into recovery mode.
Once in recovery mode of your X Play, and with Marshmallow OTA already transferred, simply select the Apply update option, and then select the file to install it.

How To
Make sure you have installed Moto X Play TWRP recovery (here).
Download the zip file from above for your X Play variant. Don’t download if a file for your variant is not listed above. Extract the file, and transfer the folder to BACKUPS folder in TWRP folder of your device’s internal storage.
If you don’t have TWRP or Backups folder yet, then simply create a backup from TWRP, for example recovery partition only, so that required folders gets built on storage.
After transferring the files into BACKUPS folder, reboot to recovery mode and choose restore option. Then select the backup you transferred, and do the swipe action to start installing of Marshmallow update.
