The Plunderer’s Gold Chest comes from taking down Desert Marauder Rusten, a roaming mechanical boss in the harsh Crimson Desert region. This heavy chest brims with spoils and delivers a huge boost of camp funds when opened in your inventory, fueling multiple Greyman camp projects without constant donations.
Key locations involved
Desert Marauder Rusten patrols four points in the Forebearer’s Barren northeast of Tashkalp in the Crimson Desert.

This arid region features red sands, scattered ruins, and open expanses ideal for spotting the distant tank-like vehicle from afar. Fast travel to nearby Abyss Nexus points like those around Tashkalp, then scout the northern loop area on horseback for quick coverage.

How to locate Desert Marauder Rusten
Rusten roams rather than stays fixed, so exploration is key.
-
Ride north from Tashkalp into Forebearer’s Barren.
-
Scan horizons for the large, wheeled tank vehicle.
-
Check the four patrol points in a loose northern loop.
-
Listen for mechanical sounds or watch for dust trails.

How to defeat Rusten step by step
Approach cautiously—regular attacks bounce off wheels. Use environmental mechanics to dismantle it.
Step 1: Trigger cannon fire
Get close to provoke Rusten’s cannons, which track and fire projectiles at you.

Step 2: Activate Nature’s Snare Retribution
Time your ability to collect incoming cannon shots before they hit—redirect them as a beam.

Step 3: Target wheels on one side
Aim redirected fire precisely at two wheels on the same side. Repeat until both on one side shatter (immune to normal damage).

Step 4: Clear the hatch enemies
Wheels destroyed halt the tank; front hatch opens, spawning enemies. Eliminate all quickly.
Step 5: Stab the yellow core
Enter the open hatch. Perform a stab move on the exposed yellow core.

Step 6: Pierce to destroy
Follow with a pierce attack on the core. Vehicle explodes, dropping the Plunderer’s Gold Chest.

Tips for success
Dodge cannon fire while positioning for Snare. Unlock Nature’s Snare early via skills or Abyss Artifacts. Stock stamina items—fight demands timing. Farm solo or with basic gear; respawns enable repeated runs for endless funds.

Securing the Plunderer’s Gold Chest transforms camp management. Its funds cover comrade dispatches, upgrades, and missions long-term, freeing you for exploration over grinding donations.
