Google is set to roll out a new privacy feature for Chrome on Android devices that will protect users’ sensitive information during screen sharing and recording. This upcoming functionality aims to redact credit card details, passwords, and other confidential data when users share or record their screens.
First spotted by BleepingComputer, the feature is available to test using the chrome flag ‘Redact sensitive content during screen sharing, screen recording and similar actions‘ on Chrome Canary for Android.
When enabled, this flag will hide sensitive form fields present on web pages by redacting the entire content area during screen sharing or recording activities.
Currently, Chrome allows screen capture of regular tabs, potentially exposing users’ private information. The new feature addresses this privacy concern by automatically hiding sensitive data.
While the exact release date is not known, it usually takes a few weeks for successful canary features to arrive to stable builds.
