Someone who uses a smartphone regularly won’t find this big news, but according to a report by mobile carrier O2, calling is the fifth most popular thing people use a smartphone for these days, with the first four tasks being web browsing, social networking, playing games and listening to music respectively.
According to the report, users spend over two hours a day using their smartphones. In a total of 128 minutes of daily use accounted for by the report, a huge chunk of it is taken up by web browsing at 24.81 minutes every day, followed by checking social networks which takes up 17.49 minutes. Other activities include playing games (14.44 minutes), listening to music (15.64), making calls (12.13 minutes), checking/writing emails (11.1 minutes), etc.
Also, smartphones have replaced devices such as watches, alarm clocks, and even laptops for some people. According to the report:
- Over half (54%) say they use their phones in place of an alarm clock
- Almost half (46%) have dispensed with a watch in favour of using their smartphone
- Two-in-five (39%) have switched to use their phone instead of a separate camera
