BlackBerry is seeding a new software update for their DTEK50 Android smartphone in Canada. The phone is receiving the update over-the-air and it includes security enhancements.
Those with the DTEK50 should see the update notification soon. Once it arrives, we recommend that you install it right away. The update installs the latest November Android security patch. BlackBerry is pretty quick with providing security updates.
Google only released the November patch for its Pixel devices a few days ago. Essential, the company found by Andy Rubin, also released the November patch for its Essential Phone yesterday. So, good job BlackBerry!
The BlackBerry DTEK50 was released in July last year and is a pretty mid-range device. It features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, the Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, and a 2610 mAh battery. It will not be getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update unfortunately.
This particular update, weighs in at 132 MB, and we recommend downloading it over a WiFi network.
