If you’re tired of seeing Adam Sandler play out the same silly comedies, this intimate drama from Noah Baumbach will feel like a fresh breath of air. Revolving around an oddly dysfunctional family as children of famous sculptor Harold Meyerowitz (Dustin Hoffman) struggle to find their own paths in life. Built with characters that are tangled in a web of tension and built with complex emotions, it’s more than just another drama set in the streets of New York.
Les Misérables
Director Tom Hooper takes an intense and drama-filled approach to the timeless saga of Jean Valjean. Set in the era of post-revolution France, a former prisoner (Hugh Jackman) tries to go about his life in peace, but a fanatical police inspector won’t have it (Russell Crowe). A story filled with the hardships of 19th-century commoners and a tale of love blooming in between, Les Misérables gives us a peek into the revolt against the monarchy.
Boyhood
The concept of time-transition movies isn’t new, but Boyhood takes it to whole new level as the movie was brought to life over the course of 12 years. Director Richard Linklater traces the growth of a young Mason Evans (Ellar Coltrane) and his entire family over more than a decade, starting at just 6 years old to his very first day of college, giving us the feeling of reliving a chunk of the fictional character’s life as it happens.
Spotlight
Taking a strong stance on a sensitive issue, Spotlight is a movie based on the real-life story of the child abuse that was rampant in the Boston Catholic Community. Starring Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel McAdams, the story revolves around the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigate work was done by the team of Boston Globe reporters, all covered up in a suspenseful and dramatic plot.
Bird Box
Directed by Susanne Bier and starring Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, and John Malkovich, this insane movie was the most talked about Netflix movie when it released. An unseen presence causes havoc in society forcing people into committing suicide. Anyone who comes face to face with the entity dies. The mother of two has to take her children along to find a place that can offer sanctuary; however, to have any chances to make it to safety, they need to complete the entire journey blindfolded.

Action
How it ends
Will and Sam are expecting their first child when Will flies to Seattle to visit Sam’s parents to ask for their blessings. A mysterious disaster transforms the entire country into a war zone and Will has no other option left buy to find Sam. Tom, Sam’s father joins Will to help find his daughter who’s thousand of miles away and there’s no means of communication.
Polar
Retirement is usually pretty peaceful but this assassin won’t be left to retire in peace. Duncan Vizla’s boss deems him as a liability to the firm and orders a bunch of equally deadly young assissins to put an end to his life. The action-packed movie is full of gun fights and explosions and more gun fights. If you’re a action junkey, then Polar must be on your watchlist.
In this world created by David Ayer and starring Hollywood favorite Will Smith, mystical creatures such as Orcs and Elves live among the humankind, but not in peace. The interspecies tension runs high, as the centuries-old infightings and the negative overview of the Orcs creates a struggle for an LA cop and his Orc partner, as they step out to save the world from those who wish to unleash wrath upon it.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Based on a 1960s TV series and brought to life on the big screen with names like Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a story about a CIA operative and a Russian KGB agent from the Cold War era. The two unlikely partners have to put their differences aside to take on a global crime organization, but not without the interest of their respective countries in mind.

A counter-terrorism expert, Sam has taken over a job to protect a wealthy young heiress named Zoe. The duo aren’t willing to get along with each other; however, when Zoe is kidnapped Sam rushes to her aid. Sam forces Zoe to learn how to fight to make sure both of them stay alive.
Mad Max: Fury Road
Modern reboots of old classics aren’t always perfect, but when it comes to Mad Max, you’ll probably like the new one even more than the old one. Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where people are at the mercy of a tyrant for the little source of water there is left, this action-packed off-roader starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy will give you the adrenaline rush right from your couch.
Civil Unrest has broken out in the European country of Moldova and US forces are helping to bring the situation under control. The situation is soon escalated since the new threat isn’t rebels but an entirely supernatural force which is invisible to the naked eye. These other-worldly entities kill anyone who tries confronting them.

Thriller / Horror
The Ritual
Netflix is a godsend for horror fans, and the latest addition to the streaming service offers a dark look into the unknown. David Bruckner brings us a band of buddies who are out hiking the breath-taking terrain of Norway, trying to pay homage to their dearly departed friend Rob. Things take a turn for the worst as the gang tries to take a shortcut through the woods and encounter an ancient creature that comes straight out of Norse mythology.
The Babadook
If you’re a horror movie buff who feels they’ve seen it all, you’ll still watch to grab a blanket and get your popcorn ready for this horrific ride. The Babadook revolves around a single mother Amelia (Essie Davis) and her son Samuel (Noah Wiseman), who can be a handful at times. Things take a sinister turn when they discover The Babadook, and creature of the night that tears apart their quiet life in unimaginable ways.
Apostle
Based in the 1900’s, Thomas Richardson returns home and comes to know his sister is being held by a cult on an island. Determined to save his sister, Thomas makes his way over to the island and sneakily tries to find out where his sister is being held. This mysterious island, however, has more evil than what Thomas had expected. The film starts to get bloody and gory halfway through and isn’t anything like your typical horror movie.
The Boy
What seems like just another babysitting job to Greta (Lauren Cohan), turns into a weird and creepy experience as a couple fires her to take care of their little boy, who is actually just a doll that the estranged couple with real care. Things get troubling when being alone in the house with an inanimate doll doesn’t seem just as alone anymore.
Gerald’s Game
Another rocking presentation by Netflix, this classic horror/thriller comes from the brilliant mind of Stephen King and is brought to the big screen by Mike Flanagan. Jessie (Carla Gugino) hopes to spice up her sex life with her relatively older husband Gerald at their lake house, but as things take a turn for the worst, it is a fight for survival as Jessie is handcuffed to the bed.
May the Devil Take You
Indonesian schlockmeister Timo Tjahjanto seems to have created another absolutely horrific dark movie. A young woman is on the search for some answers to her fathers mysterious illness. While visiting her father’s old villa, she discovers a horryfying truth from the past.
Comedy
The Do-over
Two guys are having some terrible luck and decide to fake their deaths to try and start over with new identities. Adam Sandler and David Spade are the perfect duo. They manage to fake their own deaths but little do they know that people they are trying to be are in deeper trouble. The movie is filled with bits of humor and laughable action scenes.
The Nice Guys
The oddly paired buddies Russell Crowe and the heartthrob Ryan Gosling star in a classic comedy that ensues in the lives of two private detectives from the 1970s set in Los Angeles, California. While the plot isn’t the thickest ones out there, the fast-paced script and laughable moments are all brought together with an action-filled ending.
The Hangover Trilogy
Friends are what make life tolerable, but they can also turn your life upside down and create the most epic screw-ups of your lifetime. The entire Hangover series is based on how a band of four inseparable friends plans a bachelor party, get through the night and wake up to a spectacularly messed up day, trying to make sense of the hilarious things they did while being buzzed, and trying to stay out of trouble.
Okja
Every now and then, Netflix goes on around to create a fantasy storyline that just warms your heart, and Okja is right up there. A story about the beautiful relationship between a girl and a mythical giant creature who raised her, the duo is caught up in the struggles of corporate greed, animal activism and everything in between.
Trainwreck
The first film co-written and starring the comedian Amy Schumer herself, Trainwreck is a romantic comedy with a whole of more comedy than romance. Amy goes about her life from one relationship to another, until she finds the perfect guy, but her fear of commitment, self-harming habits, and a gigantic mess of a life won’t let things go down easy.
Ted Duology
We’ve all had an inanimate best friend that we took to bed every night, but for little John (Mark Wahlberg), the coming alive of this best friend Ted (Seth MacFarlane) was a reality. In a world where even miracles are forgotten in a day, Ted the talking teddy bear goes from being a viral sensation to a has-been celebrity, until life gets too real.
Animated
Zootopia
A movie that took away an Oscar as well as a Golden Globe for the Best Animated Film, Zootopia is as magical as Disney could’ve wished for an animal-run fantasia to be. Starring big names like Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and Idris Elba, the uncalled pair of an adorable and fierce rabbit officer and a not-so-nice fox take on the city of Zootopia to solve the case of animals becoming “feral”.
Next Gen
Mai is super lonely and doesn’t have many friends to play around with but when she forms an unlikely bond with a top-secret update, the duo quikly head-out on a wild journey and attempt to sabotage a villans attempt to take over the world. The action-packed movie would leave you absolutely amazed and the animations are beautifully done.
The Good Dinosaur
The movie is set in a world where the dinosaurs didn’t go extinct and humans and dinosaurs often encounter each other. Arlo is a timid Apatosaurus who forms a unique friendship with a caveboy and both of them set out on an adventure through a harsh and mysterious landscape.
Big Hero 6
Disney takes on its own Marvel Cinematic Universe with an inspired tale of superheroes in an alternate reality where a city named San Fransokyo exists. Apart from a beautifully curated storyline of a boy’s quest to uncover the mystery around the death of his big brother, it is up to Hiro (Ryan Potter) and the band of unlikely superheroes to save to world from its imminent destruction.
Wreck-It Ralph
Set in the retro age of gaming as it tries to bring the most iconic game characters from the 80s alive, this animated marvel is a story about Ralph, who is tired of being the villain of his life story. Journeying through thousands of characters, hilarious one-liners, and the ultimate goal to help Penelope (Sarah Silverman) win the race, the movie takes some steep twists and turns but manages to give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
They left New York, got stranded on the island of Madagascar, went back to Africa to save their fellow animals, and now that gang is going on a Euro trip! This feature film starring Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, and David Schwimmer takes Alex the lion and his friends across the continent of Europe as the part of a traveling animal circus, as they meet new members of the Animal Kingdom.
