AOSP based Android 5.0 Lollipop ROMs are coming in from everywhere for every phone, but as you’d expect for any early release, these lollipop builds are all buggy and far from being used as a daily driver. But that’s okay, what matters is that there’s work going on to bring Lollipop update to devices as old as the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Developer Sultanxda from California has posted Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM for both AT&T Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (SGH-I727) and T-Mobile Galaxy S2 (SGH-T989). Both the devices boots Android 5.0 fine but, sadly, that’s end of the story too. As of now, the devices are only able to boot the Lollipop flavor release of Android, but everything else isn’t working. Oh! except for the WiFi, it’s reported to be working, somehow.
Anyway, we’ve good belief that Sultanxda would be able to make Lollipop work on Galaxy S2 very soon. The device is capable enough of running Android 5.0 smoothly.
We already heard it from the Galaxy Nexus folks who flashed a similar early Android 5.0 Lollipop build, that the Galaxy Nexus is running the Lollipop very smoothly and tastefully. We said this before and will say it again, any Android device released in 2011 or so with 1GB RAM and dual-core processor would be able to run Android 5.0 just fine.
Also, there has already been a lot of development on AT&T Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and the T-Mobile Galaxy S2. Both the devices launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and have seen a lot in the past 2 years. Developers working on Galaxy S2 devices know their way around the device, so we expect a working build of Android 5.0 Lollipop for Galaxy S2 very soon.
If you happen to own a Galaxy S2 phone (either T-Mobile or AT&T variant), the developer Sultanxda could use some inspiritation from you guys to bring the Android 5.0 Lollipop on Galaxy S2 as soon as he could. Be sure to head over to the XDA pages of Lollipop builds for both the devices linked below and say your thanks and requests to the developer. Also, if possible for you, do make a donation as well.

The builds are in very early development stage at this time so we don’t recommend flashing/installing them on your Galaxy S2 yet. However, in 3-4 weeks from now, we expect the builds to be more stable. And it’ll be interesting then to run these AOSP based Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM on your Galaxy S2.
