After the big disappointment of the Galaxy Nexus not being released in India by Samsung (mostly because they wanted to sell the Galaxy S3) still having an effect on some people, it will come as good news for many that Google’s Nexus 7 tablet will be coming to India, as an ASUS spokesperson has confirmed that the company is aiming for an October release.
The spokesperson refused to comment on pricing and other details, which will be announced by ASUS in September. The Nexus 7 sports a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and costs $199 for the 8 GB variant in the US and $249 for the 16 GB variant, so even a price tag of Rs. 15000 in India will make it a surefire hit and give consumers looking to get an Android tablet at an affordable price a great choice, with ensured software updates by Google themselves with no carrier/manufacturer interference.
Here are the official specs of the Nexus 7:
- 1.3 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 chipset
- 1 GB RAM
- 7” 1280×800 HD display (216 ppi)
- 8 or 16 GB internal storage
- 1.2MP front-facing camera (no rear camera)
- Wi-Fi, NFC connectivity
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- 4325 mAh battery with 9 hours of HD video playback, 10 hours of web browsing and e-reading
The Nexus is currently the best tablet one can get for a $199 price tag, so we hope ASUS releases it in as many countries as possible so everyone can reap the benefits (as opposed to Samsung who neither market the Galaxy Nexus too well nor release it in many countries, giving consumers no choice but to go for non-Nexus devices).
Will you be getting one when it comes to India? Let us know in the comments.
