AOSP Android 4.0 ROM for Samsung Galaxy S2 – KOUD AOSP

The Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 has received another Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 based custom ROM, Koud AOSP ROM. It is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM that provides you the stock Android 4.0 experience without any modifications or Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top. There are already quite a few ICS ROMs available for the Galaxy S2, but like they say, the more the merrier.

As it’s an AOSP based ROMs, a lot of bugs and issues might be present, and quite a few things do not work yet. Whether the ROM is usable as a daily driver is something only you can decide, so read on to find out how you can flash Koud AOSP ROM on your Galaxy S2.

This procedure is compatible only and only with Samsung Galaxy S2, model number i9100. It’s not compatible with any other device. Check your device’s model number in: Settings » About phone.

Read everything carefully and thoroughly. The methods and procedures discussed here are considered risky and you should not attempt anything if you don’t know completely what it is. If any damage occurs to you or your device, we won’t be held liable.

Pre-Installation Requirements

  1. A rooted Galaxy S2 i9100 with ClockworworkMod recovery installed.
  2. This procedure will wipe all your apps and data (but it will NOT touch your SD cards, so don’t worry). So backup your Apps and important data — bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. This Android backup guide would help you.
  3. Make sure your Galaxy S2 is sufficiently charged, at least 50% is recommended.

How to Install Koud AOSP ROM on Galaxy S2

  1. Download the latest version of the ROM from the original development page.
  2. Download the latest version of the Google Apps package (this is required since the ROM itself doesn’t contain Google apps like Market, Talk, etc).
    Download Link
  3. Transfer the zip files downloaded in step 1 and step 2 to your internal sdcard (not the external microSD).
  4. Turn off the phone, then boot into recovery mode. For this, press and hold these 3 buttons together until Samsung’s screen shows up: Volume UP+Home+Power. Phone will boot into CWM recovery.
  5. Using volume keys to scroll up and down between options and power key to select an option, select “install zip from sdcard”, then select “choose zip from sdcard”. Then, browse to the ROM file and select it.
  6. Confirm installation on the next screen by selecting “Yes — Install”. The ROM will start installing.
  7. After the ROM finishes installing, go back to the main recovery menu.
  8. Now repeat step 5, but this time select the Google apps package file you downloaded in step 2 to install Google apps. Confirm installation on the next screen by selecting “Yes”.
  9. After the installation completes, go back to the main recovery menu.
  10. Now, select “wipe data/factory reset”. Then select “Yes” on next screen to confirm. (This will not wipe your SD cards so don’t worry).
  11. Then, select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.
