FYI: Android Wear 2.0 Doesn’t have Theater Mode

Gone are the days when you purchase a watch, call it timeless design and keep it until you give it to your grand-children. With Android Wear OS, your watch breaths new life each year with software updates and then die out after a few years (outdated hardware.. phew!). BUT we’ll focus on the good things — software updates.

Android Wear currently runs on v1.5 but developer preview for Android Wear 2.0 has been available for a few months, and it’s very much refined.

Android Wear 2.0 comes with a lot of new features. If you happen to own a Huawei Watch or LG Watch Urbane 2, then it’s definitely worth checking out the newer version of Android Wear on your watch. You can go over here to get the Android Wear 2.0 developer preview images.

That said, Android Wear 2.0 also has certain features removed that we so dearly loved. One of which is Theater Mode. You can no longer put your Android Wear watch on sleep when you’re in the movies or at dark places where you don’t want your watch illuminate.

But thanks to 3rd party developers, we already have a temporary fix to get theater mode functionality back on Android Wear 2.0. Developer Ugljesa Jovanovic has released an app on the Play Store that enables theater mode on Android Wear 2.0 preview release.

[icon name=”cloud-download” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Download Theater Mode for Wear Preview (app)

Download & install Theater Mode for Wear Preview (link above) on your device, then open the app on Watch and Enable Theater Mode on your Wear 2.0 Watch. The app will simulate Theater Mode by simply showing a black background once you start it. To exit theater mode, just click the power button.

Happy Androiding!
