It seems Google is preparing to launch Android One in Indonesia, and surprisingly, the devices will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, a version of Android that’s not even released to Nexus 6 yet. Also, even the Android 5.0 Lollipop update isn’t out yet for the large number of Android One users in India.
Android One is Google’s initiative to bring affordable Android devices to the masses with Nexus experience software pushed in. Android One devices run stock version of Android and are guaranteed to receive latest Android updates directly from Google for upto 2 years.
Although, Google is lagging behind on its timeline to launch Android One in Indonesia, but now that the official Android One page for Indonesia is up on android.com, we guess the launch could be happening anytime soon.
Android One devices were first launched in India in 2014. These devices pack decent hardware: 1.3 GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM, 4.5 inch FWVGA display, 8GB storage (expandable upto 32GB), 5MP/2MP camera setup, 1700 mAh battery and Dual SIM compatible.
Indonesia will be getting the following Android One devices: Evercross One X, Mito Impact and Nexion Journey. All Android One devices feature the same specsheet, so it’s only matter of choice between brands and most importantly the design of the device. Android One devices will retail through the following retailers in Indonesia: Eraphone, Global Teleshop, Okay Shop and Shop Mobile. The pricing is not yet known of Android One devices in Indonesia, but it should be around $100.
