It was already known to many that Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2017 and Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2016 with S Pen would be updated to Android Oreo and indeed, the OS is now available for the two slates in South America.

The update first appeared on the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2016 with S Pen on October 16 carrying software version P585MUBU1CRI3 and like others in the recent past, the update is Oreo 8.1. Unfortunately, you still get August 2018 security patches, but it shouldn’t bother those who have been looking forward to this OS.

As for the Galaxy Tab A 2017, the update is coming in as software version T385MUBU2BRI4 and even though it carries the same Oreo 8.1 as the Tab A 10.1, you get a newer Android security patch for the month of September 2018.

The Tab A 2017 update was first spotted on October 21 in Brazil and has since spread wings to other South American countries that include Chile, Colombia, Panama, Bolivia, Peru as well as Trinidad & Tobago. Of course, more regions should join the party sooner or later.

Being OTA updates, it will take some time, probably a few days, before all units get the download notification, so be patient.
