Granted, the Android Pie rollout has taken over now — with both Huawei and OnePlus setting early pace after Essential and Google — when we talk about major software updates, but that doesn’t mean the rollout of Android Oreo is a finished business already. Cure the release of Android 8.0 Oreo by Samsung for its Galaxy J7 Core (Galaxy J7 Nxt in some markets) that started only moments ago.

If you own a Samsung device that is identified by model no. SM-J701F (J7 Core/Nxt), then you are up for a big update on Android Oreo, even though it’s not the latest and great in Android Pie.

Carrying the software version J701FXXU6BRH9, the OTA update for the Galaxy J7 Core/Nxt installs the Android 8.1 build that brings a lot of cool features like picture-in-picture, notification dots, Autofill, revamped notifications center and settings app, notification snooze, etc.

The Android 8.1 seems to be the last major OS update for the Galaxy J7 Nxt and Galaxy J7 Core as the device is ineligible for Android 9. We don’t think Samsung’s 9 Pie update plans have a place for J7 Nxt and J7 Core as these devices were launched with Android 7.0 Nougat bo-board and have already had their share of one major Android OS update in Oreo.

Though, when Samsung plans to release Android 9 for Galaxy S9 and S9+ flagship handsets isn’t very well-known either. They are yet to announce the beta program for Android 9 update, which is a shame when you consider the fact that both OnePlus and Huawei have made considerable progress already in this case.
