Asus’ ZenFone 3 series came about in 2016 and back then, Android Marshmallow was the talk of the town. Last year, Asus updated the ZenFone 3 series to Android Nougat and so far, several variants in the family have already been upgraded to Android Oreo. Well, today is the day the ZenFone 3 Max gets a similar treat from Asus, which also makes it the first Asus device to receive an Oreo 8.1 update and not Oreo 8.0.

The ZenFone 3 Max Oreo update comes as software version 15.0200.1807.406 and further bumps up the ZenUI version that runs on top of stock Android to 5.0. Keep in mind that there are two variants of the ZenFone 3 Max: ZC520TL and ZC553KL. Well, the update is rolling out to the latter, but we also expect the same to happen to the former at some point in the coming days.

Asus just released the update today and it’s rolling out over the air, meaning it may take up to the end of this week or even well into next week before all ZenFone 3 Max ZC553KL units receive the download notification. Rather than wait, the company recommends you try forcing the update via Settings > About > System update.
