A leaked Samsung Galaxy Oreo roadmap has just given us the date to expect the release of Android 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, A5 2017 as well as the Galaxy Tab S3.
Samsung started rolling out Android Oreo to the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in mid-February (after a botched update earlier in the month) and is expected to kick off the rollout of the OS to the Galaxy Note 8 later this month. While we already knew that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will only be upgraded to Oreo after Samsung is done with the 2017 flagship phones, the exact release date had until now remained elusive.
According to the Samsung Members app, however, the S7 family will be upgraded to Android Oreo in Spring/Summer, which gives us a timeline of somewhere in May-June 2018. Although it will be quite late compared to the competition, it’s a good thing that we finally have a release date to look forward to.
The report also mentions the Galaxy A5 2017, but there’s no talk of the Galaxy A7 2017. Nonetheless, we expect the latter to join the former in receiving Oreo when the time comes. It remains to be seen whether the Galaxy A3 2017 will also be upgraded to Oreo, but it’s our hope that Samsung will bump up the phone’s software to the latest version possible.
If you own the Galaxy Tab S3, Samsung will also be upgrading it to the newer Android Oreo at about the same time. This will be the tablet’s first major OS upgrade and since it’s a flagship slate, we also expect it to be upgraded to Android P, but this could happen somewhere in Q3/Q4 2019. Sad indeed!
