Root status: Available
Update 2 (16th Aug. 2016): Download link updated to latest SuperSU v2.76.
Update (9 Dec. 2015): Chainfire’s latest SuperSU systemless root beta (v2.61) has auto boot pachter, meaning you could just simply flash the SuperSU v2.61 zip and have the device rooted. No need to flash a modified boot separately.

Google is now finally rolling out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow bugfix update to all Nexus devices. Previously, Android 6.0.1 was rolled to Android One devices and to one lucky Nexus 6 user, who happened to get the MMB29K 6.0.1 build via an OTA update, a week ago.

Anyway, now that Factory images for Android 6.0.1 are available for everyone to download, it wouldn’t late before folks over at xda or Chainfire release modified boot for each of the device to get root access.

Also, in case you’re wondering about the systemless root from Chainfire, which allows you to root the device while keeping the system partition untouched, we guess it’ll make it to 6.0.1 as well.

Google has released 6.0.1 factory images for all Marshmallow supported Nexus devices with build numbers MMB29M and MMB29K.

How to Root Android 6.0.1

Download SuperSu v2.76

  1. Download and transfer the SuperSU v2.76 zip to your device.
  2. Boot into TWRP or any other custom recovery of your choice.
  3. Install/Flash the SuperSU v2.76 zip.
└ This will install SuperSU and automatically patch the boot image to allow root access.
  4. Reboot device.

That’s it. To verify root access, download and install a root checker app from the Play Store.

Happy Androiding!
