GamerROM brings the Android 5.1 update to AT&T Galaxy S4, and being the based on AOSP-inspired CM12.1, it features stock UI, getting you rid of the ugly TouchWiz UI of Samsung. No doubt, as far as software aesthetics go, Lollipop UI is undisputed king of earth. You also get nice customization options from CM12.1, plus all the new features of Android 5.1 update that was recently launched. The GameROM is also available T-Mobile S4, Verizon S4 and Sprint S4.
You cannot expect AT&T and Samsung to get you an official Android 5.1 update, now that S4 is past two years of guaranteed updates plan. With the launch of Galaxy S6, it’s the S6 and S5 that will get Samsung’s 5.1 updates whenever it comes in next 2-3 months, while Note 4 and 3 are also in line.
But anyway, ROMs like GamerROM, CM12.1, SOKP, etc. will evolve and continue to develop, and your AT&T Galaxy S4 will soon have plenty of choices to install Android 5.1 update from. The small bugs whatsoever will be ironed out over time, and you’ll have a stable ROM soon enough, in a month or two’s time.
Right now, it’s fair to say GamerROM is far from stable, and thus may contain a bug or two that could annoy you a little bit. But, except for video recording that’s still not fixed, everything seems to be working. And it’s not like it’s a buggy ROM, it could very well become your daily driver, but be sure to fully test it before depending on it.
And in any case, if you want to go back to official Samsung firmware for your AT&T Galaxy S4, you can do so pretty easily — a simple firmware flash using Odin software is all it takes to remove custom ROM, custom recovery and root, all in one shot, and restoring the phone back to stock, Samsung firmware.
Note: As you already know, it’s not an official Samsung Android 5.1 update for AT&T Galaxy S4, so expect few kinks at some corners of the ROM that are yet to be fixed by the team. Any major bugs will be reported below.
