The OneTouch Idol 3 has received an OTA update with the build number bring 6045Y, based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The 6045Y update packs in October security patch, while bug fixes and minor performance improvements are also part of the package.

The Idol 3 launched way back in June of 2015 with Android Lollipop 5.0.2. While, it receive the Marshmallow update beginning with software version 6039.

The Idol 3 was in no way a substandard smartphone, but at the same time it was also no competition for the big guns of its time. The smartphone was released in two variants and featured decent specifications to get it through the day. The chance of the OneTouch Idol 3 getting Nougat are almost zero, but Alcatel could release devices featuring Nougat in the near future.

Security patches are also being rolled out to the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 5 by Verizon and T-Mobile respectively with the later receiving the ability to sync the Gallery with Samsung Cloud.

Alcatel seems to be focusing on budget oriented smartphones for now. The only flagship-level smartphone that came out of the company was the Idol 4s which even got a Windows doppelgänger.
