If you own an Android device, especially one as popular in the development community as the Droid Incredible 2, and love flashing new ROMs and tweaks to your phone, you must have noticed the variety of custom Recoveries that are available these days, including touch-based recoveries. Unfortunately the process to try these new recoveries out is so cumbersome, because of different download locations and installation methods, that you tend to just put it off and make do with the CWM that you have.
Enter the Incredible 2 Custom Recovery Installer. This is not an All-in-one tool like many others available there, but a special tool which allows you to install drivers and flash any of four custom recoveries to your Incredible 2. As you can see from the screenshot above, it features 2 standard recoveries, Clockworkmod & Aman Ra, and two touch-based recoveries, Team Win and 4EXT, both of which are fast gaining popularity. The tool includes all the adb and fastboot files required to install any of these recoveries on your device. Trying these out before you settle on the recovery that suits you the most, just got a whole lot easier.
The available version is a very early release, and while it does what it has been designed to do, there may be some bugs. More features, and probably a complete overhaul is possible in the near future.

Bugs
- Cannot select between different devices although it appears to allow you to do so. It might flash to a different phone if you have more than one hooked up in fastboot mode.
- Doesn’t actually check to see if the phone is an Inc 2.
- Sometimes the recoveries get unlocked even though the phone isn’t in fastboot mode, if you click one of them fastboot.exe will wait on the phone forever and freeze the program.
Upcoming Improvements
- Much improved download size.
- Ability to try recoveries before flashing them.
- Threaded device state monitoring – gets rid of prompts and keeps the app from freezing.
- Ability to select between multiple devices.
- Eventually a better GUI.
- More consistency throughout the program.
Usage Requirements
- Operating System: Windows XP with .NET 2.0, Windows Vista, Windows 7
- Must Run the tool as administrator to install drivers
Using the tool is pretty straightforward. Download the Custom Recovery installer from the official development page, and run it on your Windows PC, attach your Incredible 2, and click the option you want to execute on the tool.
