Grow a Garden 2 has four special gears — the vine wrapper, power hose, freeze ray, and rainbow carpet — and they let you grab, freeze, and fling other players or fly across the map, as long as your target is standing in the right spot.
If you want to mess with the people stealing from your plots in Grow a Garden 2, the four special gears are your toolkit. Here’s what each gear actually does, where it refuses to work, and how to get the most out of it.
What you need first
How to use all four special gears in Grow a Garden 2
Meet the four gears
The lineup is the vine wrapper, power hose, freeze ray, and rainbow carpet.

Grab a thief with the vine wrapper
Catch someone in your vines and swing them around so they can’t move.

Ride the rainbow carpet
Pull it out to fly around the map instead of parkouring up to big fruit.

Freeze a target with the freeze ray
A clean shot locks them in place for a few seconds.

Fling someone with the power hose
When it lands, it blows the player clear across the map.

Chain the gears into a combo
Wrap them in vines, freeze them, then blow them away back to back.

Where these gears actually work
The biggest catch is location. Early on it looked like the gears only worked on people who were actively stealing, but later testing showed the vine wrapper and power hose grab players even when they’re just standing around — as long as they’re in the right area.
That area is specific. You can’t use the gears on someone while you’re inside another player’s garden, and they won’t fire in the main area or the safe zone either. The target has to be outside their own plot and out of the safe zone for anything to connect. Once you account for that, the gears land every time.
Cooldowns and shaky accuracy
Every gear here has a cooldown except the rainbow carpet, which you can keep riding freely. The carpet is the easy standout — it looks far better than the classic version, lets you fly to the top for big fruit, and gets you to a spawned mythic pet before anyone else can grab it.
The catch with the offensive gears is accuracy. The shots miss constantly — the miss rate is around 90% of the time, with fast-moving players being especially hard to hit. Expect to whiff plenty before a shot actually lands.
Chaining gears into a combo
The fun really starts when you own more than one. Catch a player in the vine wrapper, hit them with the freeze ray, then knock them away with the power hose — all in sequence.
Done back to back, the target basically never gets to move. You can keep cycling the combo and the other player is left completely stuck, dropping whatever they were trying to steal.
Combo the gears in order — wrap a player in vines, freeze them, then blow them away — and they’ll never get a chance to move or steal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the gears only work on people who are stealing?
No. They work on any player, whether or not they’re stealing from you, as long as the target is in the correct area.
Do the special gears have a cooldown?
All of them do except the rainbow carpet, which you can use freely.
Why do my shots keep missing?
The accuracy is poor — they miss roughly 90% of the time, and fast-moving players are even harder to hit.
Where can’t I use the gears?
You can’t use them inside someone else’s garden, in the main area, or in the safe zone. The target needs to be outside their plot and out of the safe zone.
Which gear is the best?
The standout picks are the rainbow carpet and the vine wrapper.
