Subwayne Newtown overview
How to unlock Subwayne Newtown
Step 1: Reach the Newtown Subwayne site
Travel to south‑central Central Island, where the Newtown Subwayne puzzle sits between Newtown City Hall and the Gotham Stock Exchange.

On the in‑game map, select Subwayne from the map markers; the Newtown icon will highlight in the southern portion of Central Island.

Step 2: Set up Robin and Batman
Before entering the puzzle area, ensure Robin is in your party; you need him to open the gate blocking the battery‑machine row. If you haven’t unlocked Robin yet, complete the early story chapters where Dick Grayson joins Batman (typically around Chapter 2 or the “Robin” story mission).
Step 3: Swing up and unlock the gate
From the Subwayne entrance plaza, use Robin’s grapple to swing up onto the building rooftop directly above the Subwayne door.

On the roof, interact with the contraption or lever next to the gated battery machines.

This will unlock the gate, giving Batman access to the puzzle row.
Step 4: Grab the first battery
Pick up the first battery positioned right next to the battery machines. This battery has a hard‑wired connection into the subway’s power grid, so you must place it in the correct machine to restore power.

Step 5: Use X‑Ray Vision to check connections
Stand in front of the battery‑machine row and activate X‑Ray Vision (mapped to the Focus/Scan button). The X‑Ray overlay will highlight the internal wiring and show which machine is connected to the live electrical supply. This visual cue tells you where the first battery must go.

Step 6: Insert the first battery correctly
Place the first battery into the second machine from the rightmost end of the row. If the wires animate and the machine lights up, the connection is correct; if nothing reacts, re‑check the X‑Ray Vision hint and move the battery one slot left or right until the line links to the main power line.

Step 7: Retrieve the second battery
After the first battery is in place, turn back toward the corner where the first battery originally sat. Run along the path to the opposite end of this side‑alley to find the second battery.

Step 8: Plug in the second battery to finish
Return to the battery‑machine row and place the second battery on the left side of the first battery machine (the left‑facing slot adjacent to the powered‑up unit).

This completes the final circuit and triggers the Subwayne to activate.

Jump down and press the button to open the Subwayne Newtown fast‑travel point. It will now be permanently unlocked.

Critical mistakes to avoid
-
Entering the puzzle without Robin: If Robin is not in your active party, the gate stays locked and the level will not progress.
-
Ignoring X‑Ray Vision: Placing the first battery in the wrong machine without checking the wiring wastes time and can soft‑lock the puzzle until you realign it.
-
Using the wrong slot placement: The second battery must be in the left‑side slot of the first‑powered machine; any other slot will not complete the circuit.
-
Leaving before grabbing rewards: After the Subwayne activates, revisit the area to collect the WayneTech Chips ×2 sitting close to the battery row.
