When you start Subnautica 2, one of the first resources you need is the Medical Gel Sac. This resource is essential for crafting various survival items early in the game. The good news is that you do not need to travel far or dive into dangerous deep zones to find it. The plant you need grows very close to where you begin.

The Medical Gel Sac plant is incredibly convenient to find. Right after spawning in your life pod, you can drop down into a hole located directly beneath it.
This hole leads you straight to the plant you need. You do not need a compass, coordinates, or a submersible vehicle for this early-game resource.
The dive is shallow enough that you do not need depth margin modules or advanced equipment for your Seamoth.
How to harvest Medical Gel Sac (safely)
The plant has a built-in defense mechanism that releases toxic fumes if you try to take the sac incorrectly. Following the proper steps ensures you get the resource without taking damage.
Step 1
Swim down the hole directly under your life pod until you see the plant with the glowing yellow center at its core.
Step 2
Do not grab the central sack yet. Instead, target and remove the pouches located on the sides of the plant first.
Step 3
Once the side pouches are gone, go for the sack in the middle. Taking it now will not trigger the toxic fume defense.
Step 4
Collect the Medical Gel Sac and return to your life pod or base. You can now use it for crafting medical items and other essential tools like the Enhanced First Aid Kit.
Why you shouldn’t grab the sacs straightaway
The plant releases toxic fumes as a defense when disturbed. If you grab the central sack without removing the side pouches first, you will get hit by these fumes and take damage.
Removing the side pouches disables this defense mechanism, allowing you to safely harvest the Medical Gel Sac from the center. This small extra step prevents unnecessary health loss during your first resource run.
