How the chainsaw works during logging

The chainsaw functions differently from traditional gathering tools. Instead of repeated swings, the saw continuously cuts while the attack button is held. This allows players to maintain constant pressure against trees for faster harvesting.

Because timber is collected automatically, you can move immediately to the next tree without stopping to loot materials manually.

Should you prioritize unlocking the chainsaw early?

If your progression heavily relies on settlement upgrades, crafting stations, construction projects, or trading timber resources, then unlocking the chainsaw early is highly recommended. The initial research timers may seem long, but the long-term efficiency gain easily justifies the investment.

Players focused on industrial progression or large-scale crafting will benefit the most, especially once timber demand increases in the mid-to-late game economy.

The Demenissian Chainsaw is currently one of the strongest quality-of-life tools available in Crimson Desert. Its fast cutting speed, automatic timber collection, and bonus wood generation make it far superior to standard axes for dedicated resource farming. Although unlocking it requires multiple research stages and a lengthy crafting process, the payoff is substantial for any player planning long-term settlement or crafting progression.
