Tianma showcases a cool bezel-less 5.46″ LTPS display for smartphones

Some like to think of manufacturers as following the beat of their own drum (proverbially speaking), but all manufacturers follow and study trends. Smartphone trends show what’s popular (even if it pertains to a color such as red; red phones are a new current trend), and manufacturers can’t afford to ignore the new and appealing.

One such trend in the current smartphone space is “going bezel-less,” with a number of OEMs such as Samsung with its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus as well as Doogee with its Doogee Mix, Xiaomi with its Mi Mix, ZUK with the ZUK Edge, and even new former Android head Andy Rubin has made an Essential phone that is also bezelless. ZTE will release a bezel-less, full-screen phone this year (even if the Nubia Z17 was a disappointment in this regard).

Tianma, an international display maker who caters to the Americas, has showcased a cool full-screen, 5.46-inch LTPS display for smartphones, with the display showing little bezel. The side bezels of this LTPS (acronymic for “low-temperature polycrystalline silicon”) display are only 0.5mm in thickness, and the bottom border bezel is only 1.8mm in thickness. Tianma makes a large number of liquid crystal diode (LCD) screens such as thin-film transistor LCDs, or TFT-LCDs for short. Just recently, the company showcased a new 5.5-inch Full HD Force Touch LTPS panel at Display Week 2017.

There’s no word on when Tianma would mass-produce this bezel-less LTPS display, but we assume that, as the market continues to clamor for bezel-less phones that become largely display-naked in nature, more displays like those from Tianma will turn mainstream.
