What to know

  • Mount Fay is a vertical, late-game area in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
  • The path is filled with traps, fragile ledges, and flying enemies.
  • At the summit, you’ll find a Lost Flea tied to the Faydown Cloak upgrade.
  • The Faydown Cloak grants a double jump, opening new paths and secrets.

Reaching Mount Fay is one of Silksong’s toughest challenges, but it’s also a turning point. If you want the freedom of double jumping, you’ll need to endure the mountain’s demanding climb and uncover the fate of a Lost Flea hidden at the top.

Mount Fay location and map: How to get to Mount Fay and where is it

Before you begin the climb, you’ll need to unlock access:

  • Act progression: You must be in Act 2, with the Verdania region fully open.
  • Windcarve Pass: Head north through Verdania’s high plateaus to reach this zone.
  • Required ability: The Silk Lash grapple is essential. Without it, you can’t cross the final canyon that leads into Mount Fay’s foothills.
  • Checkpoint: A bench sits just outside the entrance. Rest here, because benches are scarce once you enter.

How to climb through Mount Fay

The climb is broken into layered challenges. Here’s the sequence you’ll face:

Lower ascent: fragile ledges and spike pits

  • The first section introduces crumbling platforms. Move quickly, as they collapse within two seconds.
  • Flying “Needlers” patrol the narrow paths. It’s safer to bait them into charging before attempting jumps.
  • You’ll encounter your first vertical shaft filled with spikes. Grapple to wall anchors and move upward carefully.

Mid-ascent: wind tunnels and aerial ambushes

  • Gusts of wind sweep across open ledges, pushing you into hazards. Timing your jumps between gust cycles is crucial.
  • Winged Spinsters appear in pairs, attacking in swooping arcs. Defeat or dodge them before attempting platforming sequences.
  • Midway up, you’ll find a temporary resting alcove with a hot spring. Use it—this is your last safe recovery point until the summit.

Upper ascent: puzzle-platforming trials

  • Crystal-like grapple points appear, requiring quick chaining of Silk Lash pulls while avoiding falling debris.
  • Some routes are split into optional paths: one with harder platforming but shortcuts, and one longer but safer. Both rejoin later.
  • A hidden chamber contains a Whispering Root shard needed for the Lost Flea. If missed, you must backtrack later.

Summit approach: trial plateau

  • The environment shifts to windswept cliffs with narrow stone bridges.
  • Enemy waves spawn continuously here, testing stamina and healing management.
  • Past the final bridge lies the shrine where the Lost Flea awaits.

Mount Fay reward #1: Finding the Lost Flea at Mount Fay

At the shrine, you’ll encounter the Lost Flea—an NPC bound to the mountain’s lore. The Flea speaks cryptically of “falling to rise again.” To complete their request:

  • Deliver the Whispering Root shard from Verdania’s lower caverns.
  • Upon return, the shrine activates, unlocking the last vertical shaft to the summit.
  • The Flea vanishes afterward, leaving only a fragment of dialogue hinting at a larger fate.

Mount Fay reward #2: Unlocking the Faydown Cloak

The final chamber atop Mount Fay houses the Faydown Cloak. Interacting with it binds Hornt to its power, enabling a double jump.

Uses of the Faydown Cloak include:

  • Performing a second jump in mid-air. (That's incredibly important, you know! It is also called Super Jump and basically you can't live without it in Hollow Knight: Silksong.)
  • Combining the double jump with Silk Lash for extended traversal.
  • Accessing secret alcoves and shortcuts across Pharloom.
  • Enhancing aerial combat by dodging or repositioning mid-attack.

Why the Faydown Cloak matters

The Faydown Cloak is more than mobility—it’s progression-defining. With it, several previously inaccessible regions unlock, including sealed cliffs in the Watcher’s Spire and hidden alcoves in the Deep Dross. Many late-game bosses are designed with vertical arenas, making this upgrade a necessity rather than just a convenience.

Reaching higher places

Mastering Mount Fay is both a test of patience and skill. When you finally earn the Faydown Cloak and find the lost flea, the freedom it brings makes the struggle worthwhile. The mountain doesn’t just push you upward—it prepares you for everything Pharloom has left to offer.
