We have always known that India features high on Xiaomi’s priority list. However, we got a hint of just how high, when the Chinese manufacturer decided to unveil its next big release in New Delhi — underlining the importance of the Indian market in the company’s global ambitions.

Apparently, the Indian press has been invited to an event to be held on the 23rd of April that will see Xiaomi CEO and founder Lei Junin in attendance along with president Bin Lin and global vice president Hugo Barra. The invite did mention “i is coming ” so we are almost certain that Xiaomi will make use of the occasion to announce its next device.

Xiaomi, which has already captured about 3-4% market share in India despite entering the market only recently seems to be eyeing the next stage of expansion. Only earlier this week, the company ended its exclusive partnership with e-commerce website flipkart, taking Snapdeal and Amazon into its fold.

The company has also been working on launching the “Mi.com” its very own online retail website which is expected to stock everything Xiaomi — from TVs to routers to mobile devices. And that’s only what its been doing in the virtual world of e-commerce.

Off the web, the company’s ambition is reflected in the recent deals it made with Bharti Airtel and The Mobile Store which now allows them to store and sell Xiaomi products via offline retail since that was the only disadvantage the company had as compared to other smartphone manufacturers in India. Well, this coming from a company that’s registered in the Guinness book of world records for selling over 2 million phones in just 12 minutes?? Other players in the telecom sector should better step up their game.

The company has already established a warehouse in Bommasandra, near Bangalore and is further in the process of setting up a Research and Development wing in the city itself with the aim of developing and marketing software designed keeping the Indian customer in mind. What’s next? Xiaomi stores perhaps?

Anyways, the thing that has got us really excited right now is Xiaomi’s next which will see the daylight on the 23rd. The registrations for the same have already been opened up on the company’s official website, so you can hop over there to take a look. We will be sure to bring you instant updates on this and other interesting topics very soon. Stay tuned!!
