The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is the most recent super-budget phone from the Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi. But as is the case with budget phones, we doubt if Redmi 2 will get the latest and freshest release of Android (Marshmallow) officially from Xiaomi.
Also, even if Xiaomi does release Android 6.0 to Redmi 2, it’ll be so deeply flavored with MIUI that it’ll take over all the sweet vanilla flavor of pure Marshmallow update that Google released.
However, if you’re up for giving a bumpy ride to your Redmi 2, you can install the unofficial CyanogenMod 13 (CM13) ROM right this instance on your Redmi 2 and get Marshmallow running on your device.
FYI: Redmi 1S CM13 Marshmallow ROM is also available
CM13 is the Android 6.0 Marshmallow edition of the popular CyanogenMod ROM. The ROM hasn’t been officially released yet, but the folks over at Cyanogen have been kind enough to release the source code for CM13, using which the third-party development community has already released a number unofficial CM13 ROMs for various Android devices.
The Redmi 2 CM13 ROM is currently in developing stage so it has bugs and issues that you might now prefer to have if you use the device as your daily driver. Check the list bugs list below:
– VOLUP+VOLDOWN to boot into recovery
– YAS537 Compass Sensor is not working
– GPS not working properly
– FM Radio not patched to work on marshmallow
– Pictures cannot be taken but video recordings possible
You can grab the Xiaomi Redmi 2 CM13 Marshmallow ROM from the download link below simply flash it over via TWRP recovery or any other custom recovery of your choice along with a compatible Marshmallow Gapps package.
