Xiaomi seems to be prepping to incorporate a fingerprint sensor in its upcoming mid-range and high-end smartphones. A new patent filing at the State Intellectual Property Office in China has revealed this new process of fingerprint recognition to the buttons.

It is likely that the upcoming Xiaomi flagship smartphone will incorporate the fingerprint sensor. However, there is no official confirmation from Xiaomi regarding the same. The patent filing claims that the device will have bottom fingerprint sensors and optical sensor in the terminal equipment of cover glass.

Usually, the smartphone manufacturers place the fingerprint sensors on the home button of their premium offerings. Some examples of such devices include Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6. As the Xiaomi Mi 5 is likely to be the upcoming flagship smartphone from the Chinese vendor, it is expected to arrive with the fingerprint sensor.

Going by the existing rumors, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is said to boast of a 5.2 inch Quad HD 1440p display and employ a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset supplemented with 3 GB of RAM. The device is claimed to boast of 64 GB of native storage space that cannot be expanded. The other goodies onboard are said to include a 16 MP main snapper, an 8 MP front facer and a 3,600 mAh battery.
